Here you can experience four seasons of fun and relaxation.

To assist you in planning your stay, we have put together a map listing local options for you to explore all that the area has to offer.

From family-friendly activities to epic adventures, there is more to do than can fit in a single itinerary. The Catskill Mountain region has so much to offer. The area is known for the Catskill Forest Preserve, with its rich wildlife and hiking trails, and ski resorts, largest indoor water park in NY. Here you can experience four seasons of fun and relaxation. Keep in mind that while AKERA does offer activities onsite, from indoor to outdoor, there are many local options that you may enjoy as well!

It is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts for its endless array of recreational opportunities for all seasons. This mountainous paradise offers you the perfect place to enjoy hiking, biking, camping, fishing, observing wildlife, picnicking, and so on.

On your visit, you can find a plethora of nearby attractions, where you can have a blast doing several other activities. For example, golfing, museums, water park, ziplining, white water rafting, and much more.

Legendary mountains and lush forests hold breathtaking views and boundless adventures.

Country roads lead to antique and art galleries in villages like Woodstock, an art colony since 1902 and still the world’s most famous small town.

To assist you in planning your stay, we have put together a map listing local options for you to explore all that the area has to offer.

The Hudson Valley has an abundance of local farms, many of them using organic, sustainable or regenerative farming methods. If you are looking for fresh produce, locally made cheeses, honey or maple syrup, or want to harvest your own fruits and vegetables, and do something fun with the family, look no further.

Kelders Farm in Kerhonkson has fun farm activities for the whole family, such as mini-golf, a playground, hay rides, a corn maze, and a giant bouncy pillow.  Saunderskill Farms in Accord, and offers pick your own fruits, an excellent farm store with local produce, breakfast, lunch and bakery. Damn Good Honey Farm in Kerhonkson, sell home-made honey but are also passionate about teaching about the importance of our pollinators and how to protect them, hosting beekeeper workshops and trainings and much more. Catskill Mountain Sugarhouse in Grahamsville visit the sugar house in March to see how Maple syrup is produced in Sullivan County. Apple Pond Farm at Callicoon Center - take a farm tour and help feed the animals, gather eggs or shop home-made products, organic vegetables and meat at Sullivan County’s only solar and wind powered organic farm. Contact them to book cheese making or wool spinning classes!  Buck Brook Alpacas in Roscoe - a family run farm with over 100 Alpacas and Angora rabbits that offers interactive tours and sells cozy Alpaca products. More things to do with kids: Check out the local libraries for story times, music hours and craft projects that you can join with your little ones!

Spring Fun

The area is known for the Catskill Forest Preserve, which is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts for its endless array of recreational opportunities for all seasons, but the spring really kicks off the seasonal fun with flower fields of dreams, birds singing, sunsets. This mountainous paradise offers you the perfect place to enjoy hiking, biking, camping, fishing, observing wildlife, picnicking, nature walks, flower picking, rainbow chasing, and so on.

AKERA has multiple Hiking Trails on the property, that lead to and around the ponds, small cave, and rock formations on the property.  

Neversink Park is about 12 minutes from AKERA and offers a series of trails with waterfalls and access to the Neversink River.   Easiest access from Fairgrounds as 8230 State Rte 55, Grahamsville, NY 12740

Mountaindale Park is about 20 minutes from AKERA and offers walk along Silver Lake.

The 60-foot Red Hill fire tower sits atop 2,980-foot Red Hill and it affords a panoramic view of the Catskill peaks and the Rondout Reservoir from behind Denman Mountain.  This is a moderate hike from the parking area, which is about 25 minutes from AKERA.

The famous Peekamoose Trailhead, is less than 30 minutes from AKERA, the hike is difficult but well worth the 1.5 hour hike to the tallest peak in the Catskills for the spectacular views and dip in the famous Blue Hole when you get back down to the bottom!

Minnewaska State Park Preserve has an abundance of beautiful hikes for different skill levels and several lakes and waterfalls to admire. Sam’s point preserve is on the highest section of the Shawangunk mountains, with amazing views, crevices and caves to explore.

Easy hikes with kids:

The RAIL TRAILS offer miles and miles of broad, smooth and level trails, perfect for hiking, biking, running or pushing a stroller. Once the path of an actual railway line, it connects different towns, hamlets and villages in the area, so you can easily plan a stop to grab a hot drink or some food along the way. You will find access to the trail heads for example in Hurleyville, Fallsburg, Woodridge, Mountain Dale, Parksville, Liberty and Kerhonkson.

Neversink Park is about 12 minutes from AKERA and River is very popular for trout fly fishing on the Neversink River, with access to waterfalls. Easiest access from Fairgrounds as 8230 State Rte 55, Grahamsville, NY 12740

Mountaindale Park is about 20 minutes from AKERA and offers great fishing for bass, crappie, pike, and pickerel from Silver Lake.  Mountaindale also offers fishing and boat rental.  

Morningside Park is less than 15 minutes away from AKERA and offers fishing boats for catching lake trout, bass and walleye.

Sullivan County Lakes and Ponds for fishing: Bashakill Marsh, Cliff Lake, Crystal Lake, Lake Huntington, Lake Superior, Loch Sheldrake, Long Pond, Mongaup Falls Reservoir, Mongaup Pond, Morningside Lake, Rio Reservoir, Swinging Bridge Reservoir, Toronto Reservoir, Waneta Lake, and White Lake.

Summer Fun

On your visit, you can find a plethora of nearby attractions, where you can have a blast doing several other activities. For example, golfing, museums, water park, ziplining, white water rafting, largest indoor water park in NY, and much more.

If fun and exercise in the water is what you are looking for, you’ll find Catskill waters cool and refreshing. 

The pond on the property is spring-fed and is swimmable. Water shoes are recommended, unless you are comfortable walking in a natural pond bottom. It is 6 feet at its deepest point.

Mountaindale Park is about 20 minutes from AKERA and offers a swimming pool and lake.

Minnewaska State Park is about 30-40 minutes from AKERA and offers several great swimming holes and lakes (Lake Awosting is a favorite). Lake Awosting is a little more remote, the hike to the lake is over 3 miles long, but you get rewarded with a beautiful view and clean water, with a unique stone slab “beach” that gradually slopes down into the water. The rail trail is smooth and even except for a very steep section just before you reach the lake, it is also suitable for cycling or strollers. Swimming is not allowed in Awosting falls, but it is still worth the short hike to admire the view, and you can take a “shower” if you get close enough to the mist from the splashing waters!

The famous Blue Hole, described as ancient whirlpool is less than 30 minutes from AKERA, directly across the road from the Peekamoose Trailhead.  Blue Hole also features a waterfall.

The Kartrite is home to New York State’s biggest indoor waterpark, located right next to the world-famous Monster Golf Course and the Catskills Casino.

Split Rock is part of the Mohonk Preserve, and accessible from the Coxing Trailhead parking lot. While swimming is allowed, there is no life guard on duty. There is a picnic area and a waterfall, and a river that forms several smaller pools that are great for children to play in. The Split Rock swimming hole in New York is one to remember!

Although AKERA doesn’t have motorized water crafts on-site for visitors use, AKERA does have a variety of self-propelled watercrafts, such as canoes, standup paddle boards, and kayaks.

Paddle boats can be rented at both Morningside Park and Mountaindale Park.  Motor boats can be rented on White Lake in Bethel about 35 minutes from AKERA.

Fall Fun

The Catskill Mountain region has so much to offer, with its rich wildlife and hiking trails, rock climbing, fall foliage, legendary mountains and lush forests hold breathtaking views and boundless adventures. Country roads lead to antique and art galleries in villages like Woodstock, an art colony since 1902 and still the world’s most famous small town.

Not on the property at AKERA, but there are some locations locally. General information on hunting includes how-to and safety tips with links to seasons, rules and regulations.

The Shawangunks, or “The Gunks”, as the locals call it, is a collection of cliffs in the Catskills and known to be one of the most popular climbing areas in the country. There is something to find for any skill level, with the Trapps and Near Trapps being the most popular areas to climb. Stop at the Mohonk Preserve’s visitor’s center for more information or visit the “Rock and Snow” store in New Paltz to meet some local climbers!

Of course, this area is rich with history, including but not limited to: Warwasing Historical Society and Knife Museum, Sullivan county museum in Hurleyville, Time and the Valleys Museum in Grahamsville, Bethel Woods Museum, Woodstock Artists Association & Museum.

Winter Fun

Here you can find a perfect blend of cozy indoor fun and exhilarating outdoor adventure.

There is nothing quite as exhilarating and satisfying as getting outside in the cold winter air. There are plenty of options for outdoor fun near AKERA, from extreme winter sports to cozy cuddling near the fireplace with hot chocolate, the Catskills offer an ultimate winter experience. 

The RAIL TRAILS offer miles and miles of broad, smooth and level trails, perfect for cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Once the path of an actual railway line, it connects different towns, hamlets and villages in the area, so you can easily plan a stop to grab a hot drink or some food along the way.

You will find access to the trail heads for example in Hurleyville, Fallsburg, Woodridge, Mountain Dale, Parksville, Liberty and Kerhonkson.

Minnewaska State Park Preserve in Kerhonkson and Mohonk Preserve in Gardiner welcomes cross-country skiers and snowshoers on their well-maintained trails. For best access to the trails in the Mohonk preserve, park at the West Trapps, Coxing, Spring Farm or Testimonial gateway Trailheads. 

Walnut Mountain Park in Liberty in the heart of Sullivan county offers over 13 miles of trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

The Shawangunk Country Club offers day passes for snow tubing on select winter days, and has a little bistro where you can warm up with some hot chocolate after!

The town of Neversink, at the Grahamsville Fairgrounds Pavilion, has an ice rink and rents out ice skates and helmets. Make sure to check their Facebook page on updates about hours and closures before planning your visit!

The Town of Fallsburg has free open-air skating on a lighted pond. Ice skates can be provided or you can bring your own.

Holiday Mountain in Monticello offers skiing slopes and snow tubing in the winter as well as swimming, go-carting and mini-golf in the summer.

The Kartrite is home to New York State’s biggest indoor waterpark, located right next to the world-famous Monster Golf Course and the Catskills Casino.  It may be a Winter Wonderland outside, but it’s always 84 degrees at The Kartrite!  Splash the day away on thrilling waterslides! Surf an endless wave while enjoying a view of the heart of the Catskills. Snowshoeing in the winter, arcade, mini bowling alley, 4D theater, laser tag, ropes course, zipline, climbing wall, 3D gaming, virtual reality, and more.

Ski Resorts: Belleayre Mountain is an hour away from AKERA or Hunter Mountain is 60-80 minutes away from AKERA or Plattekill is 60-80 minutes away from AKERA.
